Why is online anonymity important? Recently, the RIAA has served subpoenas to hundreds of alleged copyright violators and forced ISPs to reveal the identity of these alleged infringers for prosecution. Unfortunately, since these subpoenas are not subject to rigorous judicial review, many innocent people were falsely accused. These people had to hire attorneys and defend themselves. We offer AnonDSL to spare our customers these legal battles. Fundamentally, we believe you are entitled to privacy on your Internet connection and have created this service to meet that need. How does it work? We'd rather not reveal our methods publicly. What we can say is that Bway.net cannot be forced to reveal information it doesn't have. Yes, it really is that simple. Not every ADSL can be anonymous, and it is not automatic - you must call us and request it. Please note: as mentioned above, email and any other activity that requires authentication is, by definition, not anonymous. Is file-sharing illegal? Peer to peer file sharing is not illegal. However, distributing copyrighted material without permission of the copyright holder is illegal. Bway.net wants to preserve the legal uses of peer-to-peer connectivity, including as a distribution platform for independent media producers.
